WSCA News & Notes
You know what we sound like at Portsmouth Community Radio – WSCA-LP 106.1 fm, so now come and see what we look like.
On Friday, May 18th from 5pm to 7pm WSCA is having an open house gathering so come on by and sample some munchies, meet the DJs, hang out with other volunteers, swap ideas, find out about sponsoring and underwriting WSCA programming and visit with the WSCA board members and get a guided tour of our studios… All good fun… Everyone is invited
The Portsmouth Community Radio WSCA-LP studios are located at 909 Islington Street, Portsmouth, there is plenty of parking, and it is free.
If you are a volunteer, or are thinking about volunteering, Friday May 18th from 5pm to 7pm is an ideal time to hang out with people already involved with Portsmouth Community Radio WSCA-LP, sample some free munchies, and still get home before it gets dark.
So come and join us! More information can be found by calling 603-430-9722. And thank you for listening.
US Senators Shaheen and Ayotte spoke briefly and answered questions on April 20, 2012 at the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce (hosted by the Sheraton Hotel). They discussed BRAC (the Base Realignment and Closure process), stating that closing military sites like the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard may take several years to save money, and that the latest nuclear attack submarines are critical to national security.
BRAC is an independent nine-member panel appointed by the President. In 2005, the Pentagon / BRAC process listed the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a site that was not needed and slated it for closure. However a local political outcry (now led by Senators Shaheen and Ayotte as members of the Armed Services Committee) caused the shipyard to be removed from the closure list, for now.
Thanks to Roger Wood for recording this event. Available as MP3 or OGG (Ogg version has some noise correction).
April 19th from 6 to shortly after 10 pm, WSCA aired a live remote broadcast of the Spotlight Awards festivities at the Music Hall. Click here for Mp3 audio. The pre-show broadcast from the lobby started at 6, and the official event started at 7:10.
