The award for original song started in 1934, seven years after the Oscars began, and is awarded to the songwriters.  Some of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century are represented:  Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Henry Mancini, Stevie Wonder and Stephen Sondheim, just to name a few.

In addition Morning Voices will feature the music of Harold Arlen (b. Feb. 15, 1905).  Composer of the Oscar winning “Over the Rainbow,” Arlen wrote songs for 28 movies and 14 shows for Broadway.  He’s most remembered for his contribution to the American song book.  Tune in for a sampling of some of his greatest songs and their great interpreters!
